Introducing WSExpress™

Wengert Software Engineering, Inc. (WSE) announces WSExpress™, the fully functional and integrated Work In Progress (WIP) system for manufacturers.

With WSExpress™, parts are tracked from the moment they arrive at the receiving area until such time as they are assembled as part of a finished product. The finished product is tracked as it is created during the manufacturing process, stored in the local warehouse and finally shipped as part of a customer order. Each part or finished product item is tracked by means of a bar code label, which is produced by WSExpress™ when a part is received or at the first stage of the manufacturing process. Using Intermec JANUS hand-held data collection computers or fixed mount scanners, items are scanned each time they are received, placed into inventory, relocated within inventory, removed from inventory and placed into production, assembled into the finished product, or packaged for shipment to a customer. The JANUS units communicate in real-time with the WSExpress™ host system via radio frequency (RF), thereby allowing WSExpress™ to track the precise location and quantity of hundreds of thousands of items in a warehouse facility.

Running under Microsoft Windows, WSExpress™ provides an extremely powerful yet user-friendly interface to the parts and finished goods inventory databases. Users can view the contents of a warehouse bin location simply by pointing and clicking with a mouse. All items in a bin are then displayed. In addition, search utilities are available to locate a single item anywhere in the warehouse or production process or to show the total quantity of a particular item currently in stock. Users can also determine from which parts or raw materials a particular finished product was made, which is crucial for quality assurance.

The user can configure alarms to be generated automatically when inventory exceeds or drops below a given level, allowing for just in time manufacturing. In addition, WSExpress™ can be configured to alarm if a perishable item has been stocked for longer than some preset time. WSExpress™ assists order packing and production by finding the oldest items for an order, rejecting items not required for an order, and maintaining up to date status on each and every order including quantity needed, quantity picked and quantity on-hand for each item in the order.

WSExpress™ can be interfaced to existing data processing computer systems as required by the customer. The WSExpress™ database can be exported into many popular database and spreadsheet packages (e.g. Excel) for customers with their own in-house tracking systems.
